Last week Amazon published 2016 Q1 earnings report which were very promising. Sales were up across the board, with Amazon.com sales growing by 26.7%. Yet the most important metric for us at Marketplace Pulse was that 48% of all sales were done by third-party sellers, like the ones in this top 100 list. This is the highest it has ever been and hopefully it will continue to grow.
Fastest growing seller in April was petphabet. Launched on Amazon in November last year they have been growing steadily since. They are based in Fremont, California and offer a range of pet products, with a majority of them under their own brand. Before launching on Amazon, they had a successful ecommerce website and social presence.
It’s now been a few months in a row where the fastest growing seller is a proven retailer joining the marketplace to expand their reach. In a lot of cases, those sellers are manufacturers and vendors themselves, going to Amazon to sell directly to consumers. Most of them join the FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) program and thus don’t have to deal with a lot of overhead when opening their own retail website would otherwise have.
Mower Partsman caught our eye. They sell various parts for lawn mowers, products which most Amazon visitors might not even realize they can get on Amazon. But by focusing on their nice and offering a wide selection of parts they managed to grow very quickly.
Overall April didn’t see as much growth as March did. We have also noticed that a lot of fastest growing sellers are offering smartphone accessories and protective cases. OEM Accessories Direct, VRS Design and Entronik are just a few sellers in TOP 10 offering those products.
We used feedback growth as a method to estimate how much a seller has been able to grow their sales. Feedback growth is calculated by comparing feedback ratings amount on April 1st and April 30th. The table below is top 100 sellers ranked by the growth rate.
