After Two Years of Shrinking, Ecommerce Is Back to Growing for Walmart in Q3 2016

Ecommerce sales (gross merchandise volume) grew by 16.8%, best quarter in 2016 so far.

Walmart Ecommerce Growth

After 2 years of slowing growth, Walmart ecommerce efforts are starting to show results.

Since acquiring Jet.com in August, Q3 was the first quarter to include Jet.com sales in total ecommerce sales. Walmart does not break it down how much Jet.com alone has contributed, but it should continue to boost ecommerce growth.

Ecommerce is still only 0.5% of total Walmart sales. However last year it was just 0.15%, so ecommerce will continue to become a bigger part of Walmart every quarter.

Walmart.com has added over 8 million SKUs over the past 3 months alone, largely thanks to the growing marketplace. We have noticed that over 1,000 new sellers are joining the markeplace a month.
